Sewdeliska Sewing Classes have been delivering friendly, inspiring classes in Perth, Western Australia, since May 2014. They are run as small groups of up to 4 sewists. Each sewing student is assisted when and as they need, on their own desired project. We also have products to support your sewing journey and save you time, from scissors to a select range of 'indi' patterns.
Jemma, the fashion-trained, industry experienced and friendly sewing instructor, facilitates creativity and style by guiding students through the processes and techniques of reading patterns, laying and cutting fabric, using and navigating a sewing machine, tool use and conducting garment fittings.
Sewing students learn how to make clothes and other items that look professional - no longer dissatisfied with that 'home-made' look and fit. You will start to make stylish, well-made and well-fitted projects amongst a creative community of sewists : D
Beginner to more advanced sewists are accommodated and classes are run with the 10 week, Australian school terms. The small groups are friendly and diverse.
The custom-built, solar-passive, studio is a well-lit, comfortable and inviting space throughout the heat of summer days and cool of winter evenings. ** The studio is completely solar-powered ! **

Gail admirably likes to push herself with her projects. She used this printed cotton jersey fabric to make this elbow length tee.
My best advice for sewing with knits on your sewing machine (versus making it with an overlocker) is to make yourself a double-layered test piece from the exact fabric scrap about 10x15-20cm. Test a few different stitches, eg. straight, lightning, zig zag. Change the width and length to suit the behaviour of the fabric. Pull on the stitching to see if the thread snaps. If so tweak the choices.
Knits can be quite idiosyncratic. That 5-10mins (also choosing the correct needle gauge and type, usually 70/10 or 80/12) and set of 2 stitch types (one for sewing the seams and one for finishing/neatening the cut edges).
Try using the awesome stretch threads available like Maraflex, which for some reason aren’t available at Spotlight. This allows you to sew seams with regular straight stitch.
